Trongate - Glasgow

Trongate is situated right in the heart of Glasgow Merchant City and has witnessed a major regeneration programme over recent years. Extended to the east of Argyle Street, Trongate is already home to a number of shops, with many bars and restaurants situated north twoards the centre of Glasgow Merchant City. South of Trongate, has a number of art galleries and creative stores.

Glasgow City Council and the Merchant City Townscape Heritage Initiative have carried out a programme whereby storefronts on Trongate have been returned to a suitable standard. Investment in Trongate has yielded new venues opening such as Fat Cat Cafe and Bluu, and the upgrading of the Tron Theatre and Tollbooth. Selfridges also plan to open up a Glasgow base on Trongate with planning permission to be submitted to Glasgow council.
